LE001 A GCN-Triggered Search for GRB Prompt Emission
Ellingson, S., ellingson@vt.edu

We propose to search for prompt emission from gamma ray bursts (GRBs). Observations will be
triggered by notices via the internet from the GRB Coordinates Network (GCN). Upon receipt of an
actionable notice, LWA1 would automatically observe in the direction of the reported coordinates for
as long as possible, and with nearly the maximum possible bandwidth (68.6 MHz). The data will be
analyzed for both dispersed pulses as well as narrowband emission (both have been proposed as
possible prompt emission). We anticipate being able to improve on existing rate-density limits by
orders of magnitude. As part of the project, we will augment the LWA-1 MCS with an unattended
remote triggering capability.
